An area of Paris with real charm, Saint-Germain-des-Pres, symbolizes, along with the Latin Quarter, the spirit of the Left Bank.
Lying between the jardin du Luxembourg and the Seine, Saint-Germain-des-Pres made a name for itself after the war as a cultural and intellectual stronghold of international renown. Actors, writers, philosophers, poets and journalists rubbed shoulders in a lively neighbourhood to a fresh, new jazz soundtrack the Parisians were discovering in underground venues around the city.
