The neighbourhood linking the east of Paris with her centre, the Bastille is an area popular with young people and artists who give this area a certain spirit and dynamism.
Historically, the Bastille is the symbol of the French Revolution and will forever be associated with liberty and renewal. Although the artist population which gave it its renown has largely dwindled, the neighbourhood is still home to a multitude of artist's workshops.
There is an impressive array of bars here, the liveliest located on the rue de la Roquette or rue de Lappe, a cobblestone street which once carried the echo of local dances at the beginning of the last century. A time immortalized by the famous Balajo, inaugurated by Mistinguette, during the thirties.
When the sun is out, the Paris media can be found on the terraces of the rue de Charonne and art and craft enthusiasts can scour the Viaduc des Arts discovering its many boutiques (avenue Daumesnil).
An evening at the Opera Bastille awaits, before having a drink and dancing the night away in one of the bar-clubs of the neighbourhood.
